At the end of each year, you think about the new year’s resolutions you will make. You may aim for better health: get more sleep, stop smoking, or start exercising. Or, perhaps you’ll vow to spend more time with friends and family. In business, you may declare to find a new career, make more money, or grow your client base. If there is one word that will help you stick to your new year’s resolution, it’s FOCUS!

To focus, you need to get clear on where you’re heading and what you need. Focusing is like using a GPS. You set your GPS in the direction you plan to go, and you stay the course until you arrive. So why do some people achieve their new year’s resolutions, while others fall short? It’s because they don’t lose focus! We all have great intentions, but some of us simply lack attention. Your focus is more than just dreaming or wishing. It must become a way of life for you because focus is a philosophy!

Here are four recommendations to help you stay focused.

1) Be clear on what you want. Write down what you’re focused on, and place it somewhere prominent so you can see it every day. Adopt the “it’s a must” attitude.

2) Stay positive and visualize how good it will feel when you accomplish the goal you’re focused on.

3) Be flexible and know that obstacles will come your way, but keep moving forward. Don’t let others steal your time and take your focus.

4) Stay confident and stay eager! The energy and time you put towards your goal is the difference between achieving it and falling short.

“The key to success is to focus our conscious mind on things we desire not things we fear.” ― Brian Tracy

May the new year bring you great accomplishments!
