A Mother’s Love

Recently, my mom went in for her annual physical. She was full of energy and feeling great. What she discovered during her visit surprised her. The doctor asked if she was feeling okay. She replied yes, especially for someone that just recently celebrated her 87th birthday. The doctor shared that her heart rate was beating at a very high level and she was in atrial fibrillation, which is when the heart’s two small upper chambers don’t beat the way they should.

My mom was shocked as she felt fine. She could not feel or experience her heart racing as the doctor described. He quickly admitted her to the hospital for observation to see if they could treat her symptoms. My sisters and I received a call from our mom, and we quickly responded by meeting her at the hospital. After days in the hospital, monitoring her heart at home for a month and giving her some medication they determined she needed a pacemaker to help regulate her heart rate.

I started reflecting on the importance of the heart. Perhaps, something we may take for granted at times. I have an incredible connection with my mom. Symbolically, the heart represents many things including love, inspiration, connection, gratitude, and passion. Love is a big motivator! We will do anything to feel love. Love is experiencing who you are and what moves you. It’s the passion you feel and the way your heart races when something matters to you that makes you feel alive!

Take the time to evaluate where your heart stands. Do you love what you do for a living? Do you approach life with love? What can happen in our lives when we open our hearts and we feel connected to something bigger than ourselves?

This Mother’s Day, take the time to call those you’re still lucky to have in your life, and remember those that have passed as you celebrate this wonderful gift our moms gave us, love.

Approach each day with love and passion with all you do!

I invite you to share a memory, picture or something your mom has taught you.
